Join us on Thurs. evening, Feb. 11 at 7:00 p.m. when we host Dr. Eddie Moore, Jr. for a presentation on issues of racial bias and social justice entitled, America is Changing: Are You Ready? This free, public session is being presented by Race and Culture L/A, a collaboration of LPL, USM’s Lewiston Auburn College, the YWCA of Central Maine, and the Harward Center at Bates College.
Eddie Moore, Jr. is the founder and program director for the White Privilege Conference and speaks nationally in a variety of forums on issues of diversity, education, cultural competency, white privilege, and other forms of oppression. This Lewiston/Auburn talk is designed to challenge participants to examine their own biases, behaviors, and belief systems and to provide skills for taking action against hatred, bigotry and oppression.
USM’s Office of Multicultural Student Affairs is bringing Dr. Moore to Maine for this entire week (Feb. 8 -12). On Tues., Feb. 9 he will be presenting to the Portland community at 5:30 p.m. in USM’s Abromson Hall (details here). He will be in L/A on both Wed. and Thurs. where he will be conducting workshops with students at Lewiston High School and USM’s Lewiston Auburn College, in addition to the community talk at LPL.
