What’s New?
  • Library to Close for Upgrades between November 17th and 19th.
  • Friends of LPL Book Sale, Saturday, December 4th between 10:30am and 3pm — The Friends of the Lewiston Public Library are excited to announce that they will be hosting a book sale! The event will be held in Callahan Hall and will run from 10:30am-3pm, preceded by the Friends annual meeting at 10am. There will be a large selection of fiction and nonfiction items for all ages including audiobooks, music CDs, and DVDs.
  • Announcing the Winners of the 2021 Teen Manga Battle. Congratulations to the winners and thank you to all who entered.

 

This Week at LPL
  • Neither Tutsi, nor Hutu: Author Talk with Prosper Ishimwe, Monday, November 15th @ 5:30pm — Author Prosper Ishimwe will speak about his book, Neither Tutsi, nor Hutu: A Rwandan Memoir, in conversation with Bates College Professor Emeritus Charles (Val) Carnegie at Callahan Hall. This free, public program will also include a book signing.
  • Storytime, Tuesdays @ 10:30am (Virtual) — Storytime is a fun, interactive activity for children ages 0-5 and their caregivers that helps introduce children to the world of books, learning, and the library.
  • Library Cinema Presents: No Greater Love, Tuesday, November 16th @ 4:30pm — The Library is providing a free, public screening of the documentary film No Greater Love (2015) in Callahan Hall. Dr. Chris Price, visiting assistant professor of politics at Bates College, will provide a brief introduction to the film at the beginning of the screening, focusing on the ethical complexities of conflict as they relate to American soldiers.
  • Teen Library Ambassadors, Wednesday, November 17th @ 3:30pm (Virtual) — Join us virtually on the LPL Teen Discord for a drop-in info session about becoming a Teen Library Ambassador. Do you want to plan your own program or event? Is there a manga series you think we should have? Do you want to run a gaming tournament? Do you like writing reviews, taking photos, or making videos? The library needs you!
  • Great Falls Forum: Criminal Justice Reform in Maine, Thursday, November 18th @ 12pm (Virtual) — In her Great Falls Forum presentation, Rep. Charlotte Warren will discuss criminal justice reform in Maine: where we’ve been, where we are, and where we need to go. She will share some highlights, including an overview of jails and prisons, Maine’s drug war, the fight to close Long Creek Youth Development Center, and police reform. Charlotte will engage the audience in what changes need to be made to create a fairer system in Maine, and how Mainers can get involved.

 

Next Week at LPL
  • The Library will be closing at 5pm on Wednesday, November 24th. We will be closed Thursday and Friday. We will re-open at 10am on Saturday, November 27th.
