The 2021-2022 season of the Great Falls Forum continues on Thursday, November 18, featuring Maine Representative Charlotte Warren, with a talk entitled “Criminal Justice Reform in Maine.” This free, public program will take place from 12 noon to 1 PM virtually via Zoom and streamed to the Lewiston Public Library Facebook page.

As a member of the Maine Legislature’s Joint Standing Committee on Criminal Justice and Public Safety (CJPS) and as Chair for five years, Rep. Charlotte Warren has seen a lot of proposals come before her to shape the criminal legal system in Maine. In her Great Falls Forum presentation, Charlotte will discuss criminal justice reform in Maine: where we’ve been, where we are, and where we need to go. She will share some highlights, including an overview of jails and prisons, Maine’s drug war, the fight to close Long Creek Youth Development Center, and police reform. Charlotte will engage the audience in what changes need to be made to create a fairer system in Maine, and how Mainers can get involved.

Rep. Warren earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Maine Farmington, a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Southern Maine, and a Master of Social Work degree from the University of New England. She is serving her fourth term in the Maine House of Representatives. In addition to serving as house chair of the CJPS Committee, she previously served on the Judiciary Committee and as the house chair of Maine’s Mental Health Working Group. She is a social worker and an educator, as well as owner and principal consultant for C Warren Consulting Services. Charlotte served on the Hallowell City Council for 12 years, including four as mayor. She is a Trustee of the Greater Augusta Utility District and a board member of the Family Violence Project.
