This program is now finished, but you may view it here.

Saadia Faruqi and Laura Shovan, co-authors of the middle-grade book A Place at the Table, join moderator Hawo Abdille (Lewiston Public Schools) for a discussion about writing, immigration, the first generation experience, being allies to friends from other cultures…and robots! This program is recommended for middle graders and their families, but all are welcome to watch and enjoy.

About the book: A Place at the Table is a timely, accessible, and beautifully written story exploring themes of food, friendship, family and what it means to belong, featuring sixth graders Sara, a Pakistani American, and Elizabeth, a white, Jewish girl taking a South Asian cooking class taught by Sara’s mom. Through the backdrop of delicious food, the book gently addresses racism, immigration, and what it means to be a friend.
