The 2023-2024 season of the Great Falls Forum continues Thursday, April 25th, featuring Jackie Majerus, Co-founder and Executive Director of Youth Journalism International, and Linus Unah, journalist, producer, and documentary filmmaker, with a talk entitled “Bringing Youth Voices from LA to the World.” This free, public program will take place from 12 noon to 1 PM in Callahan Hall at the Lewiston Public Library.

Together at the April Great Falls Forum, Jackie and Linus will tell the story of the YJI organization and its impact on the youth who are part of it.

An award-winning journalist and teacher, Jackie Majerus co-founded the educational non-profit Youth Journalism International in 1994. Based in Auburn, Maine, YJI has students around the globe. Jackie guides her students as they tackle serious societal issues such as teen suicide, school violence, the pandemic, war, terrorism and sexual assault.  She also works with students writing about popular culture, entertainment and everyday teenage life.

Linus Unah is a journalist, producer, and documentary filmmaker with a passion for crafting powerful stories that foster a deep appreciation for wildlife and the environment. His work has been featured on prominent media platforms, including Mongabay, Al Jazeera, The Guardian, National Public Radio, the Los Angeles Times and Devex, among others.

Admission is free to all Forum events and reservations are only required if attending via Zoom. The Zoom link will be posted to the Library website and Facebook prior to the event. This program is a bring-your-own, brown-bag lunch event. Coffee, tea and bottled water will be available on site at the library.

The Great Falls Forum speaker series is co-sponsored by Bates College, Lewiston Public Library, and the Sun Journal.
